EME 2040 Introduction to Educational Technology

Course Description
This course is a theory and application course that introduces students to instructional design principles, traditional and emerging technologies, and software and how they are used in the teaching profession. Students will be provided an overview of the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, Sunshine State Standards, and the Professional Educator Competencies. Emphasis will placed on current technology applications and environments in the Broward County Public School system.
Methods of Instruction
This is an online class with NO face-to-face meetings. This is a 3-credit hour course. Normally, a 3-credit hour course would meet two times each week (during a 16 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 48 hours per term. Since this class is condensed into 12 weeks the workload will require even more of your weekly time.  Please plan on scheduling your time for this class accordingly. This class has unit quizzes and a final exam, graded discussions, as well as individual and group projects - all are inside of the D2L course. Once the class has begun please email me within D2L.
Learning Outcomes
· The student shall be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in the classroom.
· The student shall able to demonstrate a general understanding of how to utilize the Internet and its resources.
· The students shall be able to identify, review and evaluate software pertinent to the field of education.
· The students shall be able to utilize productivity software pertinent to the field of education.
· The students shall be able to describe and use various types of multimedia applications which are available to enhance classroom instruction.
· The students shall be able to demonstrate, discuss, and evaluate the use of traditional and emerging technologies.
· The student shall demonstrate an understanding of Universal Design principles and assistive technologies for exceptional learners

· The student shall gain an understanding of the technology tools available to enhance the educational process of English language learners

· The student shall gain an understanding of the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of technology in education
